Semi Truck Carrying Apple Products Overturns on Interstate, Looters Swarm the Scene
Indianapolis, Indiana — A highway turned into a frenzy early Thursday morning after a semi truck hauling a full load of Apple products overturned, spilling iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks across the interstate. The crash quickly drew crowds, and within moments dozens of people rushed in to grab the scattered electronics before authorities reached the scene.
Police say the wreck occurred just after 6 a.m. when the driver hit a patch of black ice and lost control, causing the trailer to tip onto its side. The force of the crash ripped open the trailer and sent stacks of Apple packaging skidding across multiple lanes.
Drivers captured chaotic video showing teens and adults sprinting between stopped cars, scooping up boxes and fleeing. Some climbed directly into the torn trailer, pulling sealed products off the mangled pallets while traffic backed up for miles.
State troopers arrived minutes later and began pushing people back, warning them to leave the area immediately. By then many looters had already taken off with armfuls of high-value devices. The driver sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Authorities are reviewing footage to identify those involved and noted that taking items from an accident scene is a felony. Apple’s serial number tracking will help confirm which devices were stolen.
Cleanup crews spent hours clearing the roadway of debris and damaged inventory. The interstate reopened later in the morning, though officials expect the loss of merchandise to be substantial.
